Vets in Ladakh (India)
I will be going to Ladakh in India to support a short-term mission in support of the Ladakh Development Foundation and the local Moravian church.  Another vet is going to another village about the same time that I will be going. I will be working with a veterinary technician and an interpreter. There has been very little veterinary work in this remote area and we will be expected to evaluate local practices, make recommendations and conduct informal clinics to help train local farmers.  The primary species are yak, sheep, dzo (yak/cow crosses) donkeys and horses. I anticipate that much of the work will be help prepare the way for future teams.

Ladakh is in northern Kashmir (in north-west India), and is on the edge of the Tibetan plateau. The main town is Leh and it is at 11,400 feet between the Himalayan and Karakorum mountain ranges. Most of the people in Ladakh are Tibetan Buddhists.

The Ladakh Development Foundation seeks to provide technological advancements, education, and direct volunteer involvement in all aspects of agriculture, alternative energy, medical, dental, education, and spiritual development to the remote regions of Ladakh that currently receive little or no humanitarian support. The Ladakh Development Foundation is organized for the specific purpose of assisting the people of Ladakh and surrounding regions, in all aspects of rural development with the goal of empowering the people of Ladakh to improve their lives and community.

I leave on 3rd April and arrive in Leh the next day. I expect to spend the first weekend in Leh and then travel one village for about a week and then a few days in another village, before returning to Leh, and arriving back in Britain on 22nd April.
